Deepwell Drilling and Water Consultancy is based in Lilongwe, Malawi and is owned by entrepreneur Lucky Penumlungu. Lucky created the company in 1994 after completing an engineering degree at the University of Osmania in India. Deepwell Drilling and Water Consultancy specialises in borehole assessments, borehole drilling and rehabilitation, and pump installation. The company has extensive water sector experience in Malawi and past clients have included UNICEF, World Vision, and the European Union.
In November, 2008, Water For All contracted Deepwell Drilling and Water Consultancy to be their local private sector partner in Malawi.
Geoff Hopkins, Managing Director, Water For All, says, "Deepwell Drilling was recommended to us by World Vision and has a terrific reputation for high quality service. We are delighted to support local business in Malawi and hope that our association will help Lucky expand his operations".
As part of the partnership Deepwell Drilling will provide expertise and services to assist with an initial 100 pump pilot project. Deepwell Drilling will assist with borehole qualifications including water quality and quantity testing, pump installation, and ongoing maintenance.
Lucky Penumlungu says, "Our partnership with Water For All has enabled me to grow my company significantly. The training we received from the Water For All team was excellent and the contract for the installation of 100 pumps has enabled me to purchase new equipment and grown my staff to 25 people.
